CIPD Learner Stories: Siana Quinn

Siana has been climbing the HR career ladder having already gained her Level 5. She is now studying the Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management with DPG.

I originally left university before completing my degree and got my teeth stuck in working up the managerial ranks within hospitality. I found myself getting more and more involved in the HR side of things and just before the pandemic hit decided to do my CIPD Level 5 and change my career.

Here I am, 5 years on climbing the ladder in HR in the communications industry and now doing my CIPD Level 7 with DPG thanks to my employer for funding.

My main goal is to have a deeper understanding of the fundamentals and theories behind people practise and expand my views and knowledge so that I can continue to progress within the people field.

Through the learning material and some more in depth research, I have got my passion back for my role and remembered just how much I love my career and learning more about the why and the how.

It has already given a great insight and helped encourage a different and more analytic way of thinking.

Learning online means that I can fit it in around my busy life, being a full-time working mum of two I am constantly on the go so being able to access the platform any time day or night, or even poolside at swimming lessons is super handy.

The platform is great, it’s really user friendly and easy to navigate around the course.

I do admit that it can be difficult to self-motivate and be able to fit everything in but the value is already evident and helping me in my day to day role so this gives the drive to be able to put the learning hours in.

If I could describe my experience of online learning with DPG on top of being a full-time working mum, in three words I would say it is intense, enlightening and empowering.

It has completely brought back my drive and ambition and sense of self, there is real joy and jubilation in completing an assignment which has been interesting to research and write.
