CIPD Level 5 L&D Course Details

While there are no formal entry requirements to enrol on the CIPD Level 5 Associate course, we recommend that you meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Some prior experience in an entry-level L&D role
  • Experience handling HR-related responsibilities within a non-L&D role
  • A relevant degree and an interest in starting your L&D training at a higher level than the CIPD Level 3 course

When you enrol on the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning & Development, you'll study 3 core units, 3 pathway (specialist) units, and your choice of 1 optional unit: 

Core units: 

  • Organisational performance and culture in practice 
  • Evidence-based practice 
  • Professional behaviours and valuing people 

Pathway units: 

  • Support informal and self-directed learning 
  • Design learning and development programmes to create value 
  • Facilitate structured learning and development activities for groups 

Optional units (choose one): 

  • Specialist employment law 
  • Advances in digital learning and development 
  • People management in an international context

For each unit you study, you’ll complete written assignments (generally 4,000+ words) designed to showcase the knowledge you’ve gained and the skills you’ve developed on your CIPD Level 5 course.

However, for the 'Facilitate Structured L&D Activities in Groups' unit, you'll also need to conduct an in-person training session.

All of your assignments are submitted online, marked by our expert tutors and moderated by CIPD.

Please note that CIPD updates their Assessment Briefs annually as part of their Assessment Change Cycle.

We find it takes most learners about 9-11 months to complete their CIPD Level 5 qualification, however, we offer you some flexibility with a support period of 12 months.
