Yes, you’ll need to join CIPD as a Student Member before submitting your first assignment for your CIPD Level 3 Certificate. Membership is essential for CIPD to moderate your assignments, issue grades, and award your qualifications – so it’s an important step!

Once you enrol, we’ll guide you through the process of becoming a Student Member. Please note, however, that CIPD charges an annual Student Membership fee that is separate from your course costs with DPG.

Once you complete your CIPD Level 3 course, you'll then be eligible to become a CIPD Foundation Member, granting you the added tools, resources and professional credibility you need to get ahead – and stay ahead – in the people profession. 

MCIPD stands for 'Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development', and it’s a big deal in the world of HR and L&D!  

Earning 'MCIPD' status shows the world you’re a top-tier HR or L&D expert, opening doors to exciting career opportunities, higher salaries, and leadership roles – and CIPD is the only organisation that can award Chartered Member status! 

How to Become MCIPD

If you’ve completed a CIPD Level 7 qualification and have relevant work experience, you can apply for a membership assessment. Once you pass, you’ll be upgraded to Chartered Member (MCIPD), a prestigious title that proves you're a highly skilled and experienced HR or L&D professional.

No CIPD Level 7 qualification? No worries! You can also achieve MCIPD status after gaining several years of industry experience.
