CIPD Learner Stories: Kharen La Victoria Abales

Kharen decided to cement her HR knowledge and pursue a CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management.

 

With over two decades of experience across the Middle East, UAE, Europe, and now New Zealand, I’ve built my career as a Human Resources professional rooted in integrity, service, and continuous improvement.

My journey began in the Philippines, where I earned my Bachelor's in Psychology and eventually pursued an MBA in HR Management. From leading HR departments in high-pressure industries such as manufacturing and F&B, to founding my own consultancy (Freelance HR Consultant at LV HR Consultancy), I’ve seen firsthand how people are truly at the heart of any successful business.

In 2023, I felt a strong pull toward structured, global HR leadership, one that could future-proof my career and align with international standards. That’s what led me to DPG Learn and pursuing the Level 7 Diploma in Strategic People Management. It was the right choice at the right time.


DPG’s flexible learning platform allowed me to keep consulting while advancing my knowledge and credentials.


My main goal in joining this program was to elevate my strategic HR capabilities and eventually contribute at a boardroom level. Before enrolling, I was often challenged by the need to influence C-suite decisions with evidence-based HR practices.

The course has empowered me to do just that – by deepening my understanding of people analytics, organisational culture, and change management.

I’ve already applied my learning to help small businesses in New Zealand navigate employment law, develop inclusive hiring strategies, and improve retention through performance management frameworks.

This qualification has helped me rediscover my passion for HR and given me the tools to become a more impactful, strategic leader.

My next step is to achieve Chartered Membership and continue supporting organisations globally in building inclusive, people-centric workplaces.
