I’m an Executive Operations Director for the Community Schools Trust and currently studying the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management via the online learning method.
Starting from a business management background, I have always been interested and particularly driven by understanding how to efficiently manage teams, drive change, and the underpinnings of human behaviour that pushes an organisation towards certain outcomes.
Within my role, working closely with the Chief Operations Officer and HR team, I quickly came to understand the different ways an organisation can model behaviour, expectations and methods to get the desired outcome. This is where understanding the importance of adequate people management came and therefore, my enrolment into the course.
I chose DPG because having done copious amounts of research, I liked and much preferred the approach DPG took to making learners become CIPD and L&D qualified. The course outline stated on the website was extremely easy to understand, concise and clear, and I was pleased to see the learning modules available; there was a vast range of topics to learn and almost limitless options to suit the interests and goals of each individual learner.
What pushed me to make the final decision of studying with DPG was the very advanced and approachable support team. For any questions or concerns I had, they were responded to almost immediately, and therefore my learning and progress was not hindered.
I found that the way my course is structured, being the modules and time window for each assignment, is easy to follow and there are no difficulties with understanding how to study, learn and prepare for each module.
My tutor was supportive in that they ensured I understood areas that I wasn’t able to answer previously, by providing guidelines and success criteria.
My qualification has enabled me to understand the roles and expectations of a people practitioner. I now have more direction in the route I want to go down professionally and have been able to progress using the knowledge I have gained. My plans are to become a people practitioner, namely in an advisory or generalist HR role.
I have been able to apply many skills and knowledge in practise within my current organisation and have been able to shape leadership and senior members’ approaches to managing systems and employees. I would recommend DPG because their approach to learning is very flexible.
With the additional flexibility, DPG have always found innovative ways to make the learning experience more convenient for me, either through new introductions to the current learning systems and portals, but also in the way they have adapted learning modules to the current business and professional climate.
