Kevin Weare chose to study CIPD Level 7 with DPG to support his progression into more senior, strategic L&D roles while continuing to work full time.
I am currently a Learning and Development Manager working in a profit-for-purpose organisation.
Before moving into HR and L&D, I completed several academic qualifications, including a master’s degree. After entering the L&D field, I completed the CIPD Level 5 qualification, followed a few years later by the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic Learning and Development with DPG.
For me, Level 7 is increasingly seen as an essential requirement for senior L&D roles, and it was clear that gaining this qualification was critical for my long-term career progression.
My primary motivation for studying with DPG was to achieve the CIPD Level 7 qualification as efficiently as possible while continuing in my full-time role.
One of the key challenges I wanted to overcome was access to more senior opportunities. I had found that many applicant tracking systems and recruitment processes look for CIPD Level 7 when shortlisting for strategic L&D roles.
Gaining this qualification enables me to access more senior, strategic and better-paid L&D opportunities, including Head of L&D roles.
The learning platform allowed me to study at my own pace and revisit content easily while completing assignments. I particularly valued the course structure, which enabled me to sequence modules in a way that aligned with live projects in my organisation.
Tutor support was strong, with questions answered promptly and assessment feedback detailed enough to support continuous improvement. Balancing study alongside work was manageable, as I could plan assignments across the year and align submissions with real work activity.
Completing the CIPD Level 5 qualification was instrumental in securing my current L&D Manager role, as I only began receiving interview invitations once CIPD appeared on my CV. The Level 7 qualification now positions me strongly for more senior and strategic roles, significantly improving my career prospects.
The Leadership and Management Development module was particularly impactful, especially the focus on using data analytics to evidence the effectiveness of leadership programmes. I would highly recommend DPG for its fully remote model, strong resources and supportive tutors.
My advice to future learners is to plan your year carefully and submit assignments gradually, rather than leaving them all until the end. Spreading the work across makes the qualification much more manageable alongside a full-time role.
Overall, my experience studying with DPG was effective, successful and manageable. It helped me gain the qualification I needed to take the next step in my L&D career.
Progress your L&D career with a flexible CIPD Level 7 qualification from DPG.
