I wanted to gain the credibility that being CIPD qualified brings as I knew it would help my future job search.
I’ve spent the last twelve years in operational management in the radio industry. In my role, I've taken on a growing number of HR responsibilities, with an increasing focus on HR-related matters over time. It was part of my job I enjoyed so it seemed a natural step when I decided it was time to leap into the profession entirely.
I researched a few companies and the extra ILM qualification that came with the qualification at the time was the deciding factor. However, a friend had a contact at DPG who I spoke with and it just seemed the obvious choice.
I suspected my current job would be coming to an end and I knew that in an ideal world being CIPD-qualified would help me secure a new job. This motivated me to work hard and push forward.
I was in a fortunate position to be able to spend a few hours every day studying as well. I didn’t plan to finish quite as fast as I did, but I’m very happy I have.
For the most part, I didn’t need too much help, but when I asked I always got a response from a facilitator or assessor quickly.
Knowing that the support was there if I needed it was reassuring. As I approached the end of the programme, the facilitators and assessors really stepped up to get my assessments marked in time. That really helped!
I’m paying for it monthly over 12 months which has been really straightforward. It’s an investment but one that pays itself back many times over.
Be motivated, work hard and most of all, enjoy the process! Plan your time and stick to it. Allow some contingency in your plan for when life takes over and be realistic. I was in a fortunate position to be able to do this quickly which won’t be possible for everyone but keeping focused is key!
