CIPD Learner Stories: Michael Rudd

Michael has gained multiple CIPD qualifications over the years, but prefers DPG, due to the flexibility and tutor support.

I’m an HR Specialist from the Northwest and I am currently studying the CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management with DPG.

I didn’t graduate from university, so I don’t have a traditional academic background, However, I have professional qualifications thanks to DPG and part time study.

I completed CIPD Level 3 at a local college back in 2017, this involved attending once a week for a year and it was wonderful, I met some great friends that I still speak to regularly today who are excelling in the HR space.

I decided not to carry on studying in person for practical reasons and soon with lockdown it was no longer an option. In 2020 I came to DPG to complete my CIPD Level 5 Advanced Diploma in People Management, this was a dual award with an CMI qualification in management and leadership.

I was studying to better myself and grow my career in HR, I’m currently working as a Reward Manager for a global business.

For mid positions CIPD Level 5 is a bare minimum requirement, however I am now studying CIPD Level 7 to go even further to get a senior position.

Previously I worked as a HR Generalist enjoying employee relations and other responsibilities as a HR Business Partner, but I later decided to specialise with the help of my new CIPD.

For a time, I did try a different provider, but I couldn’t take to their online learning spaces, something about the DPG sites made the learning fun and friendly, it’s very accessible and doesn’t feel like a chore.
