CIPD Learner Stories: Trevor Thompson

With a few other qualifications gained over the years, Trevor was keen to enhance his professional portfolio and enrolled on the Level 5 Associate Diploma to do so.

In my role as a civil servant, I have completed numerous courses over the years in management and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at different levels. I wanted a course to complement these, and an HR course was the natural route for personal development. 

I chose the Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management with the hope that this would enable me to gain a high-level qualification in a professional subject to further enhance my portfolio for a promotion. I was keen to gain a deeper understanding of people management processes to not only benefit myself but my organisation too.

Throughout the learning process, I have developed a greater understanding of how to value employees and what the effects on the organisation could be if they are not valued and nurtured throughout the employee lifecycle, along with understanding individual needs. I feel this greater understanding will be of huge benefit to my organisation and has allowed me to become more aware of the people working in the organisation.

I choose online learning due to my full-time role and the need to work around my existing hours. I found DPG's online platform to be easy to navigate, with a clear format.

After speaking to numerous course providers, DPG's course advisers stood out as knowledgeable and highly professional on my initial enquiries.

They had links to numerous resources and a plethora of templates to correctly format assessments. The course tutors and support staff were always on hand to offer advice and guidance and usually replied within a matter of hours via online communication.

I found the draft assessment marking option to be really useful to ensure my work was developing in line with the marking critique.
