Stephanie Dietz chose to study a CIPD course with DPG to build upon her practical experience working in HR and improve knowledge on practices, behaviour and legislation.
I am currently studying the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management with DPG and it has been an important step in my career.
My background is in Business Management and Economics at undergraduate level, followed by a Masters in International Business. While those degrees gave me a solid understanding of business, they were not focused on HR.
I have now been working in HR for three years, and as my responsibilities grew, I recognised the need to improve my knowledge in the field and gain a professional qualification to strengthen my career prospects.
Enrolling on the CIPD Level 5 qualification was a choice I made in order to progress within HR. My main goal was to build on my practical experience.
Before starting the course, I sometimes felt that even though I could perform my role effectively, I lacked the academic background in key HR processes and employment legislation. I wanted to feel more confident contributing to discussions and working on projects.
The course has allowed me to close that gap by giving me a better understanding of people management practices, organisational behaviour, and evidence-based decision making.
One of the most effective parts of the course has been the structure of the modules. They are clearly organised, with resources that allow me to progress at a manageable pace, as well as research further into topics that are of particular interest to my job.
The flexibility of online learning has been essential in helping me balance full-time work with study. Tutor support has also been a significant strength. Their feedback has been detailed, helping me improve both my academic writing and critical thinking skills. Time management and setting weekly study goals have allowed me to balance my responsibilities and stay on track.
Studying with DPG has had a significant impact on my confidence and performance at work, as I have applied my learning directly to real life situations, such as improving onboarding processes and contributing more strategically to work discussions.
The course has strengthened my ability to support decisions using data and the frameworks we learned about in various modules.
One key lesson I have learned is the importance of continuous professional development within HR. I would highly recommend DPG to others due to the supportive tutors, flexible learning model, and practical course content.
My advice to potential students would be to stay organised and engage with the resources provided. After completing the course, I hope to continue progressing into a more advanced HR role and further develop my skills within the profession.
