CIPD Learner Stories: Grace Roberts

Grace shares her experience with online learning in her story below, as she works towards gaining her CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma.

My current Job title is HR Advisor for a large international high-quality tool company, and I am currently undertaking the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management via online learning with DPG. I chose to enrol on this course as I wanted to feel more knowledgeable on certain topics, (like employment law) and because I wanted to have the industry-recognised qualification to enable me to receive future promotions.

I chose to study with DPG as my HR Manager had studied with them 10 years ago and recommended them. She has been a good mentor, so I felt confident going off her recommendation. I have enjoyed the course and developing my skills and knowledge.

My qualification has made me feel more confident about holding disciplinaries, navigating a recent TUPE transfer and advising management on unique and sensitive situations.

I have recently received a promotion to Senior HR Lead and look forward to applying even further what I have learnt throughout my CIPD qualification. I want to get more involved in workforce planning and showcase my skills in strategy development.

When it comes to recommending DPG as an online provider, I 100% would, but only if online learning suits you as an individual. It requires a certain level of self-discipline and you need to feel comfortable enough to both guide your own learning and speak up when you need support.

If I could pass on any advice from my experience thus far, it would be to study, little and often.

If I could pass on any advice from my experience thus far, it would be to study, little and often. There's a lot of content to work through initially and to prevent you from feeling overwhelmed, it's best to tackle a small amount of work at a time, often. Good luck!
