CIPD Learner Stories: David Ackery

David enjoyed his experience of studying his CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management. Read his story below.

My name is David Ackery and I'm currently the HR manager for a local government. I chose to study the Level 5 People Management diploma as it is highly sought after by employers and demonstrated I was committed to further learning and development within my role.

I used the online learning platform which I found really easy to navigate between content and submissions. I especially found the communication tab very useful as this enabled me to communicate with my tutors as I was unable to commit to the webinar times due to full time work and a busy family life! But this was not an issue as they were recorded and could be watched whenever I had time.

Usually I find e-learnings dull and not very interactive. However, they were quite engaging and included real scenarios that could be used in the assignments.

I really feel the e-learning and the webinars have been set up in such a way to really guide you through the assignments to ensure you fully understand the questions and how to answer them correctly.

The assignments are split evenly and made me feel as though each assignment was not overly daunting as you could be writing the assignments whilst having the e-learning content up (which is what I did as the flow of the e-learning matched the question format in the assignment).

I chose to study with DPG because of their Christmas special offer (I believe I saved £1500) verses other providers!

The tutor support was better than what I thought it would be. Help is on-hand to submit questions if you feel you need a point in the right direction and each unit has a dedicated specialist tutor.

When you submit an assignment you will get feedback on this assignment even if you might not have hit the pass mark – but its great you get 4 attempts in total for each unit (including the draft).

This is fantastic as I did not worry if it might have failed as I knew I could use more attempts if required.

My qualification has helped me in my role and I have applied many different theories in my work. By competing the course I feel it has developed my ability to write reports.

I would recommend DPG as a provider as they provide good e-learning alongside recorded webinars for each unit and plenty of guidance when you do submit an assignment. If you need tutor support you can request it and the tutors always get back to you. Especially Wendy who really helped during my course.
